The feeds remain agency-specific. A Kootenai County Jail result speaks to that jail episode. An IDOC result concerns state corrections. “Released” or “Out of Custody” from one source does not rule out another jail, state supervision, a warrant, BOP custody, or ICE detention. Use the named custodial agency as part of every conclusion.

Open the Idaho VINE landing page and keep the search focused on one person. Names can repeat. An identifier and the agency name are stronger matching points than a familiar name alone.

- Enter the person’s first and last name, or the identifier supplied by the interface.
- Review all matches instead of choosing the first similar name.
- Compare available identity details and confirm that Kootenai County Jail or IDOC is the relevant agency.
- Open the correct record and read the current custody label plus the last event or date, when supplied.
- Record the system and time checked, then confirm a major change with the jail, IDOC, or the court record.
If no match appears, retry verified spelling, aliases, and any known identifier. Feed delay, agency participation, transfer, and display retention can all affect results. The correct statement is that no matching public VINE result was located at the time checked, not that the person was never booked or is currently free.

A release label is meaningful evidence that the participating source reported a change. It may not say whether the cause was bond, time served, dismissal, parole, or transfer. The KCSO release record or iCourt case explains a county event, while the IDOC detail record separates active parole, probation, incarceration, and eventual discharge.

Email confirmation is not the same as the telephone PIN. Do not assume every alert method uses one shared process. Telephone registration can also be completed through Idaho VINE at 1-866-984-6343, remembered as 1-866-9-VINE-ID. Locate the person, verify the agency, register the number, and keep the selected PIN.

The search screen is designed for a named person and notification registration, not for fabricating a countywide recent-release feed.
A transfer notice deserves special care. It confirms a change in the contributing agency’s custody, not freedom from all custody. When the receiving authority is IDOC, another county, the U.S. Marshals Service, or ICE, check that system before describing the person as released to the community.
Confirm Kootenai VINE Events
Treat the alert as the start of event confirmation. For a county-jail case, call Kootenai County Jail at 208-446-1400 or request the booking/release record for the actual date, time, disposition, and destination. Use iCourt to identify the order behind bond, dismissal, sentence credit, probation, or commitment. The court order may authorize release but does not prove when jail processing finished.
For a Kootenai felony case, check the IDOC Resident/Client Search. “In custody” can show transfer into state corrections. “In community” requires opening the detail to distinguish probation from parole and to read Released to Supervision. A result of “Discharged [date]” means the IDOC sentence was satisfied, which is different from an earlier release to supervision.

Kootenai Alert Response Steps
When an alert arrives, preserve its exact wording, date, time, and named agency. Do not paraphrase “transfer” as “release” or treat a court event as a jail departure. A call may repeat until its PIN is entered, so acknowledgment confirms receipt of the notice rather than agreement with a legal conclusion.
Next, choose the follow-up source from the event. A KCSO release or out-of-custody notice calls for direct jail confirmation or a release-record request. An IDOC notice calls for the Resident/Client detail and its sentence status. A court-event notice calls for the iCourt register and, when needed, the signed order from District Court Records. These checks can reveal that bond was posted, a sentence ended, probation began, parole started, or another agency received custody.
If family or a support person plans around the notice, wait for agency confirmation before treating it as a completed departure. VINE is designed to send timely alerts, yet custody data can change and each contributing system controls its own feed. Keeping the alert and the later official record together gives a clearer account than either source alone.
Kootenai VINELink Limits
VINELink is not the ordinary locator for federal prison or immigration custody. Use the BOP Inmate Locator for a federal prisoner and ICE’s Online Detainee Locator for immigration detention. A person leaving KCSO on a federal or immigration hold may have transferred, even if the county episode is now out of custody.
Data can also lag. For a time-sensitive question, verify with the jail or IDOC. When an old state-prison release is involved, IDOC’s retained “Discharged [date]” result can be more useful than a notification interface. When a county release needs an archival answer, request KCSO’s stored release record.
Use the Kootenai County released-inmate search when the custody type is unknown and several systems must be checked. For VINELink itself, stay with one named person, the correct agency, the event label, and the time observed. Note: Never interpret a no-result as categorical proof of release.
