Find Federal BOP Releases

No Federal Bureau of Prisons facility was found within Kootenai County, yet federal custody remains part of the local release map. A person may leave the county jail for the U.S. Marshals Service, later enter a BOP institution elsewhere, or finish a federal prison term. To find someone released from Federal Bureau of Prisons facilities, use the federal locator and read its status in context. A county-jail departure can be a transfer, while a past BOP release date ends one federal custody episode. Neither result alone resolves a separate state case, immigration custody, or supervision in the community.

Federal Releases Serving Kootenai

This facility-map entry means the nationwide BOP system, not a prison at a Kootenai County address. The county's current report can identify federal arresting or holding relationships, including USMS and FBI. That row does not establish BOP custody. USMS manages federal detainees from court remand through commitment or release and can use local jail space.

Destination controls the meaning. Delivery from Kootenai County Jail to USMS is continued federal custody. Later designation to BOP is also custody. A BOP result with a past release date, “Released,” or “Not in BOP Custody” shows that BOP custody ended. It does not prove freedom from supervised release, Idaho custody, ICE, or another case.

Federal transfer is not release. Describe a Kootenai handoff to USMS as transfer until a federal order or BOP record establishes the next event.

Confirm a Federal BOP Release

The BOP Inmate Locator covers federal inmates released after 1982 and is updated daily. It searches federal numbers or names. Number searches reduce same-name errors.

  1. Use the BOP Register Number when known. DCDC, FBI, and INS numbers also work.
  2. Otherwise enter first, middle, and last name. Add age, race, and sex to narrow results.
  3. Compare all identity fields and the register number. Never choose on name alone.
  4. Read both release date and location or status. Preserve the exact label.
  5. Do not call “In Transit” release. Check again after movement.
  6. Use the federal docket or records request to explain the legal event.

The official search fields appear in the BOP locator source.

The register number and exact status separate a true federal match from a similar name.

Read BOP Release Status

BOP fields answer a narrow custody question. The distinction matters when a name has vanished from Kootenai's roster.

ResultMeaningLimit
Past date, no facilityBOP custody endedDoes not resolve another custodian
ReleasedPerson left BOP custodySupervision may follow
Not in BOP CustodyNot held by BOPMay be held elsewhere
In TransitMovement from a BOP siteNot release
Future dateProjected releaseMay change with recalculation

Quote the label. “Not in BOP Custody” does not mean “not in any custody.” The BOP records explanation gives the coverage and cautions.

Kootenai USMS Transfer Records

USMS has no public historical released-person locator like BOP. Its role can begin while a person remains housed locally. After court remand, USMS may move the detainee, maintain detention elsewhere, deliver a sentenced person to BOP, or carry out a release order.

Use the federal court docket for detention, bond, commitment, and release orders. The USMS custody overview explains that role. A USMS records request is a fallback subject to federal exemptions.

Remand
A court order placing a person in custody.
Commitment
Delivery into corrections under judgment.
In transit
Movement between custodians, not release.
Supervised release
Federal community supervision after prison.

Federal BOP Records Contact

No local BOP address, lobby, or release desk exists to publish. Search nationally. If the result names an institution, use BOP's official directory for that prison. For an old release, preserve the locator result and obtain the federal court record when the basis matters.

Kootenai County Jail can answer for its own episode at 5500 N. Government Way, Coeur d'Alene, ID 83814, phone 208-446-1400. It cannot certify a later BOP release.

Get Federal Release Records

Name the person, register number, date range, and event. Ask BOP for its release record, the federal court for signed orders, and KCSO only for local booking or receiving-agency fields. This prevents a broad request going to the wrong custodian.

The record chain can read: Kootenai booking → USMS remand → BOP institution → BOP release date → supervised release. Some cases skip steps. None should be assumed. The Kootenai release search shows how county and federal events fit.

A no-result does not prove there was no federal case. Coverage begins with post-1982 releases, identity data may differ, and a pretrial USMS detainee may not yet be a BOP inmate. Search the federal docket and verify number formats before stating a limited finding.

Federal Versus ICE Custody

BOP and ICE are separate. A BOP result does not search immigration detention. A past BOP release may precede an ICE transfer, while a Kootenai departure on an immigration hold may never become a BOP record. Use the ICE detention system for that path.

Use precise words: “BOP custody ended on the listed date.” That keeps the verified fact without making a claim about every agency. A federal court order can also impose supervised release after prison, so physical release and the end of legal supervision remain separate.

Kootenai Federal Identifier Searches

The federal locator provides four number routes and one name route. Use the strongest identifier available, then compare the returned record with the federal case. A Kootenai booking number is not interchangeable with any federal number.

Search fieldInputUse
BOP RegisterFederal register numberBest direct BOP match
DCDCD.C. Department of Corrections numberRelevant transferred federal records
FBIFBI numberIdentity-based federal lookup
INSLegacy immigration numberFederal identifier route, not an ICE custody search
NameFirst, middle, last; optional age, race, sexFallback when no number is known

Record the number type, not just its digits. If a name search returns several people, do not resolve the match from age alone. Use the register number and court docket to tie the person to the Kootenai-related federal case.

Kootenai Federal Court Fallback

BOP describes prison custody. The federal court docket explains whether the judge ordered detention, bond, commitment, or release. A defendant can remain under USMS control before BOP designation, so an empty BOP search during a pending federal case is not release evidence.

For records, divide the request by custodian. KCSO holds its booking and transfer fields. USMS manages the pretrial or transport episode. BOP holds prison and BOP release records. The court holds signed orders and the judgment. A focused request should state the full name, federal number, case number, date range, and exact event sought.

Federal exemptions can restrict a USMS or BOP response. A denial or limited response does not authorize filling the gap with an assumption. Preserve the response and report only what the public locator, court, and originating agency establish.

Old Federal Release Scenario

For a person released from federal prison after 1982, a past BOP release date and Released or Not in BOP Custody label provide strong proof that the BOP episode ended. Save the register number, displayed date, status, and search date. If no facility appears beside a past date, BOP explains that the person has left its custody.

That result does not resolve federal supervised release, which is imposed by the court, or a later Idaho case. Check the federal docket for the judgment and later orders. Then search the relevant state system only if facts point to state custody. The proper conclusion may be narrow: “Released from BOP custody on the listed date.”

For a release before 1982, the locator's public coverage limit matters. A no-result cannot support a claim that the person was never federally confined. Court and archival records become the practical fallback.

Projected Versus Actual BOP Dates

A future BOP Release Date is projected. Credits or record corrections can change it, and it supplies no exact departure time. Do not use a future date to promise that someone will leave a named institution on that day.

A past date paired with a released status is different. It records the end of BOP custody. Even then, compare the status because In Transit means movement, not release. The date, label, register number, and location field belong together as one finding.
